The Farm Dweller Campaign

Evictions from farms and human rights violations continue unabated under the new democracy in South Africa. Farm evictions contribute to rural poverty, unemployment and leave many people homeless. SPP believes that the problems of farm dwellers can only be addressed though land and agrarian reform. The farm dweller campaign brings together social movements, land based NGO’s, unions and farm dwellers. The central demand of the campaign is the following:

• A moratorium to be placed on evictions
• Farmdwellers get access to land
• Exploitation of farm workers to be stopped
• Implementation of legislation that protect farm dwellers
• Poverty in rural areas to be addressed
• Transformation in rural areas through agrarian reform
