The rights of small- scale farmers and farm dwellers are increasingly being violated and undermined by the market led economic policy framework in South Africa. Pro poor agrarian reform and food sovereignty is critical to address the problem of rural poverty, landlessness, displacement and transformation of the rural economy. The building and support of rural movements of the poor is important to bring about agrarian transformation.
